Maxese

Max is doing it again. It's amazing. He is speaking extemporaneously in a language of his own devising. This time it's a variant of Thai, though. When he did this 2 years ago we thought it was an intermingling of Thai and English, but in the end it was neither. It was Max-ese. It is an extraordinary language, spoken with inflections and fluency. I was crestfallen when the speech therapist described it as gibberish.
Now he is hearing Thai every day, particularly spoken by his cousins here. So, at 10 days in, he wants to join in their discussion. Seemingly out of the blue, he has begun talking to theThai kids in long sentences that vaguely resemble Thai. The quizzical looks on the other children's faces are priceless. At first they didn't know he was speaking "Thai". Now that I've told them, they are attempting to engage back with Max. So far it's futile. But who knows? Maybe they'll find a common linguistic thread at some point.
