I have come back to the basics. I'm not even sure if "come back" is the correct terminology, since I may never have appreciated being a cellist in its purest form until recently. I feel such mundane yet beautiful things as...
The cello is something I can touch and feel.
The cello responds to my touch undelayed.
It is responding in a natural way, following physical laws of the universe. It isn't responding because it was programmed to, like this computer I am currently typing on.
It is a very sensitive partner to this touch. Incredibly nuanced.
So these things aren't even getting into the sounds and music I can produce. The pure tactile nature of it is already a wonder and a gift. If I go further into the resultant pitches that emanate, ...
There is an absolute correlation of this nuanced touch to a unique sound.
Because of this correlation, I make music which precisely reflects my all too human touch. It is inescapable.
When I hear my cello's sounds under my ear, I discover things about myself that I wouldn't have otherwise known through other forms of self expression.
I can set goals for myself depending on the quality of what I'm hearing.
These goals give life meaning and purpose.
I have to believe that all of these experiences radiate out to others.
Lovely sentiment. Glad my phone didn’t ring at 2:40 am.
